Carroll County baseball swept Villa Madonna in a doubleheader at home on Saturday, winning 13-1 and 6-5.

Carroll scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and rolled to the five-inning win in the opener. Branon Battaglia went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored and Aden Stephenson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs. Zayn Satchwell had a double and four RBI and Coy Willhoite had a double and an RBI.

Preston Snow worked all five innings on the mound for the win, allowing just one unearned run on two hits with seven strikeouts.

Carroll withstood a late rally in the second game to post the 6-5 win. Stephenson again had two hits and drove in a run, Luke Taylor had two hits and two RBI and Battaglia and Willhoite each had a double.

Landon Miller got the win with a third of an inning in relief. Satchwell pitched the first four and two-thirds innings.

On Friday, Carroll suffered an 8-1 loss at Anderson County. Aden Stephenson singled for the Panthers’ lone hit and Willhoite drove in Braden Stephenson for the only run. Braden Stephenson took the loss on the mound.

Dylan Azzinaro started on the mound for Anderson and earned the win but four Bearcat pitchers combined to log nine strikeouts.

Carroll, now 4-3 on the season, travels to Gallatin County on Wednesday and hosts Gallatin on Thursday for its first 31st District seed games. The Panthers host Boone County on Friday.

Lady Raiders claim 3 wins

Trimble County softball picked up three lopsided wins to close out last week including a 10-0 shutout at Louisville Central and a doubleheader sweep at St. Henry before falling 13-3 to South Oldham on Monday in Bedford.

On Thursday, March 21, the Raiders hammered Central 10-0 on a Hannah Chilton one-hit shutout. Chilton struck out seven and walked one in five innings.

Trimble County scored 10 runs on 11 hits. Jaelynn Holbrook had three doubles, drove in six runs and scored twice for the Raiders. Savannah Oldson had three hits and Alyssa Ritchie had two hits.

On Saturday, March 23, Trimble swept St. Henry in a lopsided doubleheader, winning 27-2 and 21-1.

Jocie Stucker was 3-for-4 with a triple, five RBI and scored three runs for the Raiders in the first game. Holbrook was 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and three runs, Oldson was 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and three runs, Jayleigh Willis had two hits and five RBI, Lily Truman had two hits and Shelby Wright and Alana Washington each had a hit and three RBI.

Ritchie picked up the win with two shutout innings and three strikeouts.

Oldson was 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored in the second game. Washington had two hits and drove in two runs and Ritchie and Holbrook each had doubles.

Holbrook got the win in the circle with one inning of work with two strikeouts.

On Monday, South Oldham starter Ella Wells pitched five innings, allowing only three runs on two hits while recording seven strikeouts to halt the Raiders’ five-game win streak 13-3.

Kaylle Fitzner pitched the final two innings for South and claimed the save, giving up two hits while striking out four. Ritchie took the loss for Trimble with six strikeouts over seven innings.

Fitzner had four hits and two RBI, Addison Schrecker three hits and an RBI and Paige Vermeesch and Grace Turner both homered for South as Vermeesch had three hits and an RBI and Turner had two hits and four RBI.

Trimble County scored three runs on four hits. Holbrook led Trimble at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with three RBI including a home run. Ritchie delivered the other hit.

Trimble, now 5-4 on the season was to head to Henry County Tuesday and host Henry on Thursday.

Trimble baseball skid now at 5 games

Trimble County baseball tacked on three more losses last week to drop to 1-5 on the season, 15-0 to Walton-Verona, 11-1 at Bellevue and 8-2 against Highlands Latin.

Trimble was shutout by the Bearcats in three innings on Tuesday, March 19, as Walton-Verona’s Landon Bach pitched a three inning one-hitter, coming just a Brayden Wilson single into the outfield away from a no-no.

Trimble County Charlie Liter took the loss but Mathew Craig and William Mallory also pitched in the contest as Walton scored 15 runs on nine hits.

Bellevue beat the Raiders 11-1 in six innings on Friday, March 22, as Justin Holloway to the win while reliever Craig suffered the loss for the Raiders after Dylan Penick started on the mound for Trimble.

Bellevue scored 10 runs on eight hits while Liam Taylor connected for Trimble County’s lone hit and Liter drove in Trimble County’s only run with Jacoby Clark scoring on the play.

On Saturday, Trimble lost 8-2 at Highlands Latin. Drew Herman had a double and Dylan Penick had a hit and an RBI. Liter and Taylor each had a hit. Brayden Wilson allowed two earned runs in four innings and took the loss.

Trimble, now 1-5 on the season, was to play at Henry County on Tuesday and host Henry County on Thursday in the Raiders first district games of the season.

Carroll softball drops 2

Carroll County softball lost 15-5 in six innings at Shelby County last Thursday and 11-0 to Collins on Monday in Carrollton to extend their losing streak to three games and stand 1-3 on the season.

Shelby pitcher Kaylee Cox scattered five runs on seven hits, four walks and three Rocket errors to edge the Panthers by in six innings and was 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and three runs scored. Madison Clark belted a home run and had twqo RBI and scored two runs.

Carroll County was held to one hit as Collins pulled away to win 11-0 in six innings on Monday, March 25.

Collins pitcher Bella Williams earned the win in the circle with six strikeouts over six innings. Carroll County pitcher Madi Groves suffered the loss with three strikeouts over six innings.

Collins outhit Carroll County 9-1. Brinley Couch collected Carroll’s lone hit in the loss.

The Panthers were to head to Gallatin County on Wednesday and host the Wildcats on Thursday in their first district games of the season before traveling to Collins in Shelbyville next Monday, April 1.

Track competes at Owen County

Carroll County and Trimble County both competed in the Owen County Track & Field Invitational on Saturday.

Carroll County’s girls won three events on the day with Macie Miller taking the high jump at 4 feet, 4 inches, the 1600-meter relay winning in 5:17.14 and the 3200 relay won in 15:35.00. Carroll’s Seth Franklin won the boys triple jump at 38 feet, 10.75 inches.

Trimble’s Avery Stockdale won the girls 3200 run in 15:19.77.

Other top finishes for the Carroll girls were: Makayla Keithley, second, 300 hurdles, 1:14.19; Reagan Miller, third, 400 dash, 1:09.83; 400 relay, fifth, 1:104.89; Lydia Risk, fifth, long jump, 11-11; Amabell Tamzin, sixth, discus, 50-5 and seventh, shot put, 22-9.5; and Adree Dermon, seventh, 400 dash, 1:16.98.

Other top finishes for the Carroll boys were: Franklin, second, high jump, 5-6; Grayson Kinman, second, triple jump, 33-8.5 and fourth, high jump, 5-2; 1600 relay, third, 4:29.96; Jakobi Chapman-Meadows, fifth, long jump, 15-8 and eighth, shot put, 31-10; 400 relay, fifth, 50.44; 3200 relay, fifth, 10:29.90; Aiden Lilley, sixth, 300 hurdles, 55.15; Alex Bolton, seventh, 3200 run, 12:53.27; Teague Walls, eighth, 400 dash, 1:00.58; and Johnathan Pirtle, ninth, 3200 run, 17:06.67.

Other top finishes for the Trimble girls were: Rebecca Kainer, second, 400 dash, 1:06.56 and fourth, 100 dash, 13.86; and Abby Young, ninth, shot put, 14-4.

Top finishes for the Trimble boys were: Owen Jackson, second, 400 dash, 57.78 and fifth, 100 dash, 12.34; Charlie Abbott, seventh, discus, 91-9 and seventh, shot put, 34-1.5; John Whitaker, ninth, discus, 82-8 and ninth, shot put, 31-8; and Landon Tuttle, 10th, discus, 76-2.

Carroll County hosts its own invitational on Friday.
